About Us
Ride4Alzheimer’s was created in honor of our mother, Jewel R. Hunt who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia in 2014 after undergoing brain surgery due to the discovery of meningioma brain
tumors. She lived for 3 years after the removal of one of the tumors. She experienced a
progressive intellectual function decline due to the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Through this journey our family became our mother’s caregiver and we vowed to make everyday count as we embraced the unknown of each day, which became our new reality
in the world of Alzheimer’s.
Mission
Ride4Alzheimer’s Organization promotes awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia and the impact it has on the families and care support providers. We raise funds for
education and research and give back through outreach services in partnership with
memory care facilities and nursing homes providing care package donations and
daily living supplies for the residence.
“Doctors diagnose, nurses heal and caregivers make sense of it all.”
- Brett H. Lewis
Caregivers need time alone to relax and rejuvenate, ensuring they can offer the best care for their loved ones. To support this, we aim to create dedicated spaces for caregivers. Securing funding will help us establish areas equipped with a gym, massage chairs, hair care services, and pedicures.
We are dedicated to supporting the numerous caregivers in our community through this endeavor.
Jewel Hunt’s Day
Featured Event
The Proclamation of Jewel Hunt's Day was granted by Mayor Sylvestor Turner November 30, 2019 to commemorate the life and legacy of our mother. We honor this day each year by giving back in the community and offering support to the families and care support givers for those who have been impacted by this devastating disease of Alzheimer's.
We have been partnering with Brookside of Champions Nursing home for 5 years now on our mother's birthday November 30th by going and offering the residents a day of pampering and fun.
We offer manicures, hair styling, music and praise. It's a time to just love on them and let them know they are loved. Each resident receives a care package of their favorite items such as blankets, socks, lotions and other personal care items they can use. Everyone is so appreciative of this love and tender care provided including us.
At the end of the event we then pay homage to our mother Jewel R. Hunt with a "Balloon Release" and prayer reflecting upon her legacy left as we carryon the charge to continue to bring awareness and education about Alzheimer's.
